Alyson D.

"Hi, my name is Alyson Deese and I am currently in the process of interviewing. So far, I’ve been offered interviews at High Point University in North Carolina, Roseman Univerity in Utah, Midwestern University in Chicago, Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee, and the University of New England in Maine. I attended UNC Chapel Hill for undergrad. It was a very challenging school where even though I tried my best, my GPA was far from perfect.

My DAT score was average which also brought down my confidence when applying. I remember when I was filling out my application and searching for schools, I thought that there was no way I had a chance. I did not know which schools I had the best chances at and I did not know how to make my application stand out enough given my average DAT score and GPA. One day, I was scrolling through FaceBook and someone posted how they had low scores and did not think they could get into dental school. Another person commented “check out dental school guide.” I clicked the link and next thing I knew, I was making a consultation meeting.

Dr. Townsend is the most sympathetic, intelligent, and personable individual I know. No matter your situation, he, in detail, allows your strengths to become illuminated. And in all, has boosted my confidence substantially. Buying the mentorship has been one of the best decisions I have ever made.

First, they make an outline of your entire application- experiences, scores, volunteering, shadowing, etc. Then, they meet with you to highlight the items they feel are strongest, and give you additional resources on the things they think you should add. For instance, I wanted more dental volunteering experience. Within minutes, Dr. Townsend got me signed up to be a volunteer for a Missions of Mercy clinic. I was able to get insight on my personal statement and get a service to fully edit it and enhance it for perfection. They know what dental schools are looking for specifically. Once I started getting interviews, Dr. Townsend made sure that we meet a week before each one to practice with school specific questions.

One thing that has helped me the most was when Dr. Townsend sent me a list of schools that he thought I would best be a competitive applicant. This is important because some schools have GPA, DAT, and location limitations. I was applying to schools that only excepted 2% out of state, but didn’t know because their website did not specify. Dental School Guide helped me through this. I received a hand-crafted list with statistics. So far, I have almost received interviews from half of these selected schools. 3 of the 5 interviews I have had so far have been from schools that Dr. Townsend recommended I apply to and were not previously on my list.

Dr. Townsend is there for you anytime. He is only one call or text away from ANY question you may have no matter the dental school subject. I know for sure I texted him at least once every week. He recommended sources of dental experience that would boost my application. For instance, he showed me the software R2Gate which has allowed me to see how implants are planned based off CBCT scans. This was an easy and awesome experience I have been able to do right on my iPad at home. What other students will have this?

I had absolutely no confidence before Dental School Guide. After one meeting with Dr. Townsend, my entire attitude and approach shifted. I not only felt capable, but I felt that I had someone that was there to support me the entire way of applying. He not only highlights your strengths, but he builds up your weaknesses to turn them into strengths. You will be given the ends and outs of every application and interview scenario.

Before any interview I had, Dr. Townsend walked me through what my day would look like based on the school I was interviewing at. He told me what the schools look for, what to avoid, specific words to include when speaking to them. I was more than prepared before entering my interview. And the best part- they are there to cheer you on! I was texted after every interview congratulating me and asking me how I did.

Now, after 5 interviews so far, I’m in awe. In my head, this is a dream that I am about to wake up from. I would have never thought that I would be given this much opportunity. I have worked so hard my entire life to become a dentist, and now I finally feel like it is a reality. All of my lifetime goals are being checked off. None of this would be possible without Dental School Guide. My confidence, my experiences, my personal statement, my essays, my interviews- they have all been enhanced and guided by people who know what they are doing and truly care about you.

With no doubt, I encourage everyone to use Dental School Guide no matter where they are in the dental school journey- the sooner the better. I wish I would have joined once I started the pre-dental track in college. Dental School Guide is there for you day one and will guide you through it all. Being pre-dental is difficult- half of the time I just hoped I was doing the right thing, taking the DAT at the right time, and volunteering and shadowing enough. Having Dental School Guide will take away those burdens. They will step beside you and lead you to your dream. I can wholeheartedly say that dental school guide is truly incredible- and now my entire future my be possible because I joined them. Its your turn to experience Dental School Guide- let them make your dream come true just like they did for me. ”
